  • Zinc-Rich Foods: Chickpeas (chana), pumpkin seeds, meat.
  • High Fiber Grains: Oats, brown rice, quinoa (to combat constipation caused by hypothyroidism).
  • Antioxidant Fruits: Berries, apples, and citrus fruits to reduce cellular inflammation.

Foods to Strictly Avoid

  • RAW Cruciferous Veggies (Goitrogens): Raw cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, kale. (They must be fully cooked).
  • Excessive Soy: Soya chunks, soy milk, tofu. (Limit them, and never eat them near your medication time).
  • Highly Processed Foods: Junk food causes systemic inflammation which worsens autoimmune thyroid conditions (Hashimoto's).
  • Excessive Sugar: The thyroid already slows metabolism; excess sugar will lead to rapid weight gain.
  • Certain Supplements: Iron and Calcium supplements block thyroid medication absorption. Take them at night.

Key Nutrients to Focus On

Selenium and Zinc are required for your body to convert the inactive thyroid hormone (T4) into the active form (T3) that your cells can actually use. Brazil nuts and eggs are your best sources. Additionally, ensure you are getting adequate Iodine (usually through iodized salt), as iodine is the fundamental building block of thyroid hormones.
