Dark chocolate (70%+ cocoa, small amounts): flavonoids improve blood flow to the brain and have been shown to improve attention, processing speed, and working memory. This one requires restraint but isn't entirely a guilty pleasure.

Dals and legumes: steady glucose without spikes. The brain runs on glucose but performs best when supply is steady rather than volatile. Protein + complex carbohydrate combinations (dal-rice, dal-roti) produce sustained energy better than refined carbs alone.

Green tea: contains both caffeine and L-theanine. L-theanine has a calming, focus-enhancing effect that offsets the jitteriness of caffeine. The combination produces alert calm — better for sustained cognitive work than coffee alone for many people.

2. What to limit
